Technical Information Specialist (Research Librarian)

This position reports to the Technology Center (TC) in Safford, Arizona. Under limited supervision, responsible for organizing, storing and retrieving technical information for Freeport-McMoRan and TC staff. Conducts research, maintains various electronic media, and develops/maintains TC intranet site.

Manages the classification, cataloging, storage and circulation for special collections of technical books, periodicals, papers, articles and other documents stored on various electronic media. Evaluates, selects and acquires new materials

Serves as a resource to Freeport-McMoRan staff, by conducting research and keeping abreast of current topics. Performs literature searches and processes technical information requests.

Develop and maintain the Technology Center's intranet site. Responsible for developing format and content of site, gathering and researching information that enhances the value of the site for staff.

Archive departmental reports and technical memoranda on a regular basis.

Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of clerks in technical library.

Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
-
Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Library Science or closely related field
-
One (1) to three (3) years experience in an area or areas relevant to assignment, including prior experience working within a scientific or technical library.

Strong scientific or engineering background preferred.
-
Skilled in utilizing Internet resources and searching on-line databases.

Familiarity with information database services such as STN, Dialog, Uncover, etc.

Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.

Proficient in utilizing computer software including Microsoft Office suite (including Access), Microsoft Front Page, HTML and ASP.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Masters Degree in Library Science.

Familiarity with information database services such as Metadex and Medline.

Proficient in utilizing Sharepoint software.
Criteria/Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting.

Occasionally work will be performed in a mine or manufacturing plant or outdoor setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, talk, hear and see.

Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 25 pounds) during the course of the workday.

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in an outdoor or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required.
