I've been asked to interview at a specialized academic library. I'm more than thrilled. I've been gathering information about the library and the school, and will continue to dig up everything I can online. The search committee has asked if there is any information I'd like from them to prepare. I certainly want to take them up on this (why wouldn't you!?), but I'm not sure what to ask for. I'm thinking of the following: - some idea of the acquisitions budget for the areas I'd serve - A copy of any planning documents available (5-year plan, etc that aren't available online) - A complete list of the names of the members of the search committe (who all said their names during my phone interview, but were largely cut off due to the beauty of speakerphone)
Any other suggestions from those of you who have been through this process? They'll also be sending me the topic for the presentation portion, so that's covered. I just don't want to miss the opportunity to ask for something that would help me prepare.
Thanks!

Make sure the job ad you saw is the complete job description. If not, they may provide you with the full description. Also, do not focus all your efforts on the library. It is quite impressive when a candidate has a strong understanding of the entire organization. Good luck!

If they're not sending you your interview schedule in advance, of course ask for that. Also, the library organizational chart can be very illuminating (if it's not already online).
But I'd suggest not asking for things just to ask for them. If you're not going to actually look through the planning documents, and ask good questions about them, maybe don't ask for them. Eh, it might not be a big deal.
Good luck!

Thank you. This is an excellent point, and I'll keep it in mind. Since the position would be in a distributed library, I've also been soaking up information about the broader library system, and about the departments to which I would serve as a liaison. Your comment has also sent me on a search for information about any University initiatives that might affect or inform the work I'd be doing. Thanks again for the tip! bcgray wrote:Make sure the job ad you saw is the complete job description. If not, they may provide you with the full description.
