Hi all,

I was wondering if there is anyone here who has experienced job hunting for special library positions (such as law firms for example). Most of the posts seem to talk about public and academic library jobs. Does anyone have any suggestions for resumes, cover letters, and interviewing at special libraries or for non-traditional library jobs? My interviewing experience so far seems to suggest that special libraries want to fill positions very quickly and there is no months long wait to hear back.

Thanks!

Kim

Also, does anyone have experience using library staffing firms? Good, bad? Were the jobs temporary or did they become permanent?

Thanks!
Kim

I was in a corporate library originally. They do hirer much quicker, but there are less opportunities and often jobs are not as secure long-term.

Cover letters and resumes are no different for special libraries. You just use the same terminology as represented in the job ad for skills and requirements. This should be what you do for every job you apply for anyways, no matter the type.
