The Catholic University of America Libraries seek an Access Services Librarian, a professional with managerial and supervisory responsibilities.

The Librarian ensures that all functions of the Access Services department meet the goal of providing users with access to the information they need through innovative leadership, creative planning and management, a thorough understanding of document delivery technologies, and continuous training and motivation of staff.

The responsibilities of the Access Services Librarian include providing administrative and fiscal oversight of Access Services; hiring, supervising, and training 6 full-time and approx. 20 to 30 part-time (student) staff in stacks management, interlibrary loan, consortium loan, document delivery, reserves, circulation, and collection security services in Mullen Library; providing guidance in the training of circulation staff in 3 campus (branch) libraries; establishing policies and procedures; managing collection of fines and fees; working with campus librarians to implement policies and procedures; instructional services; and participating in Consortium and other committees and in professional organizations.

The position requires an ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library/Information Science; two years of supervisory and management experience (preferably in an academic library or related setting); and experience with one or more aspects of Access Services. Experience with implementing and assessing programs and services is highly desirable. The Access Services Librarian must demonstrate knowledge of emerging technologies in all aspects of Access Services; knowledge of library automation, including library management systems (specifically the Voyager LMS) and ILL software; skill in planning, management, supervision, and staff training; excellent organizational and analytical skills; and excellent written and oral communication skills. The Access Services Librarian must be able to collaborate with staff at all levels, work quickly and accurately under pressure in a dynamic environment, and accommodate flexible scheduling seven days a week.

This position requires mobility and has physical demands such as stooping, lifting and carrying items up to 30 lbs., and standing and walking for extended periods.
