I've got a few questions regarding academic library interview presentations...

First, when do you usually learn the presentation topic? The institution in question told me they'd send it along, but I haven't heard anything. When should I get nervous?

Second, do any of you have any stories about really great candidate presentations you've seen? What made them outstanding/memorable? How much influence did that have on whether the person got hired?

And finally, does anyone know of any candidate presentations that are posted on Slideshare or elsewhere? I'd love to see what successful presentations looked like. (Obviously subject matter will vary greatly, but I'm also interested in style, format, etc.)

I figured that while I wait for the official presentation topic, I might as well do some research on what my approach should be...

Thanks!

There is no set rule on when to expect the topic. Do you already have a date and time setup?

In my experience, the successful candidates addressed the topic without regurgitating other's ideas, engaged the entire audience by looking at everyone, answered questions well, knew their presentation as if they had given it hundreds of times, and related it somehow to the needs of the hiring organization.

I would be surprised if many candidate presentations made it to slideshare. Just thing of presentations you have seen. What did you like or dislike?

Fair enough. That's generally what I figured. I've just got an excess of nervous energy.

I do have a date for the interview. No time per se... it's an all day gig (and I don't have a schedule from them yet either). But, they say patience is a virtue. I'll concentrate my energies on researching the organization for a while more!
