Hi All
I'm confining my search to the Las Vegas area and it is problematic. Two very different people have told me that education and experience are not as important here as is networking and contacts. Of course, library work is a small world and contacts are important. I have heard many times that if two or more people tell you the same thing it has a probability of truth. What have you found and how much credence do you give it? How do you find such information? Is it scuttlebutt?

Often people downplay education as a only a requirement that we all need of the degree. BUT, if people list requirements in a job ad and you do not have them, you will not be considered. You can overcome one weakness but but many.

I do not think you can ignore experience. If you talk to colleague or read listservs, everyone talks about not getting a job due to lack of experience.

Networking and contacts only get your foot in the door for an interview. Education, experience, and your interview skills will land you the job.
