So I've noticed a bunch of people posting as "guest" in this forum on topics unrelated to "individual libraries." Would you guys prefer more ability to post anonymously, or do you feel it would lower the tone of discussion? Please vote and comment here.

Ah, the Annoyed Librarian syndrome.

I've always thought that one of the reason's her blog was so popular was because it allowed for anonymous posts, and anonymous posts on her blog advance the discussion.

Unfortunately, this opens the door for trolling, but there are enough moderators on the forums to keep things in check.

I vote for more ability to post anonymously. I am very interested to see how this could advance the discussion on such a valuable resource such as these forums.

I don't mind if some people want to be anonymous, but some threads are getting confusing already with people saying "Guest 1, I agree with you about blah blah blah, but Guest 4 also has a good point when he/she says..."

Is there a way to make it so that people can still post without registering, but they have to choose a screen name other than Guest?

SarahD -- anyone can register semi-anonymously -- all you need is a valid email address (Hotmail, Gmail, whatever). So if you wanted to create a second account that wasn't linked to your main account, it's fairly easy to do, and you could use the "anonymous" account to post concerns you didn't want identified with your main account, or to reply to sensitive topics.

(Disclosure: I can see the IP addresses you post from; no one else can.)

Hi all -

Anonymous posting has been disabled, since I woke up this morning to an awful lot of spam.

Should you wish to post semi-anonymously, please create a secondary account attached to a throwaway email address.
