Hi guys and gals!

I need some advice. I am a public librarian with nine years of library experience who is looking to move into special libraries. I recently applied for a position in a corporate library setting. I passed the first phase of the interview process and have been invited back for round two. This 2nd interview will be with the library staff who I would be working side by side with every day. (The first interview was with the library manager.) I've never been in an interview situation like that before.

Has anyone had any experience with interviews like this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Anxious

As in a panel interview? (That's my impression as I read it)
When you respond, look directly at the person who asked you the question as you speak. You could look subtly around a little at the others as you respond. Also watch the panelists on how they interact with each other--it can give you a clue about how they work.

Yes, it's a panel interview-I couldn't think of the correct term.

Thanks so much for the article-it looks very helpful.

Here's an article on how to make an impression in a panel interview - http://www.bnet.com/2410-13070_23-68784.html

I have been in several panel interviews - they can be daunting, but sometimes you can definitely get a feel for an organization and its staff by the panel interview itself... is the interview format rather relaxed, with the staff acting rather informal... or is it very rigid and by the book, etc.... This can help you decide if you would be a good fit for the organization too. For example, I will not go into details, but I did a panel interview at one place, and I knew almost immediately that I would not want to work there, based on my experience with staff in the interview.

This is a great opportunity to ask them questions! Unless the format seems not to allow it, you should be prepared with questions for these folks.

1. What do you like best about working here?
2. What do you find most challenging?

Answers to those questions can tell you an awful lot about the organization.

Just wanted to pop in and let you know how it went! The articles you guys sent me were great, particularly the tips about looking around at each person while answering individual questions.

It turned out to be two of the library staff who were interviewing me. They were very nice and I feel like I got a good feel for the organization. I think it went well, but then again you never know!

Thanks again everybody!
