Hello all,
I'm working on getting together a reading group dealing with leadership. We've got a lot of suggested titles from the "business" sector. I'm not opposed to learning from what "business" has to say about how to be a better leader, but I'm wondering if there are any titles you all can suggest.
I am especially interested in books, non-fiction or not that focus on libraries or the private sector.
Many thanks for your help and happy new year!

When I was taking a course on library management last year for my MSLS, my library director handed me They Shoot Managers, Don't They? by Terry Paulson and said it would be more useful than any class. While its analagies are drawn from the business/private sector, Paulson's recommendations are applicable to any field and I did indeed find it very useful.

I attended (and was involved in the planning of) a symposium on leadership in early December. It was sponsored by ACRL/NY. We had four fantastic speakers, all librarians in leadership roles, and they recommended the following books (in no particular order):

Phil Jackson, Hugh Delehanty, Bill Bradley. Sacred Hoops: Spiritual Lessons as a Hardwood Warrior. New York: Hyperion, 2006. http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/74149973

Ram Charan, Know-how: The Eight Skills that Separate People who Perform from People Who Don’t. New York: Crown Business, 2007. http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/68373258

I just read both of these for one of my MBA classes and I thought both were very good.
