I'm considering adding a "career disruption" section to LISjobs.com -- anyone have suggestions for resources similar to this from SLA?

http://www.sla.org/content/jobs/disruptment.cfm

thanks!

I would be interested in seeing a career disruption section--especially on the challenges of translating what you've done as a librarian to alternative jobs outside the library world, any fresh ideas on networking, job hunting, etc. would be great.

Meredith Farkas had an interesting post today referencing the recent AL Direct newsletter special on libraries in tough economic times. Her point: What about the librarians? What do you all think -- should ALA or other organizations be providing career disruption assistance and resources? If so, what could they be doing?

Thanks, Dana. This "Hope for the Best, Plan for the Worst" piece from Kim Dority might be useful. She also has written other columns on Rethinking Information Careers on related topics, from becoming an information entrepreneur to striking out on your own as an independent information professional.

You might also be able to use some of the resources from What's the Alternative? on the book's companion site, which links to an article on alternative careers as well as to the websites I referenced in the book.
