Do libraries ever use webcams for interviews? AND...

Would it be inappropriate to ask? Whistle

This'll be the 2nd time I've flown out at my own expense for an out of state public library interview. I'd really like the job but...

BTW, LiveHire is the type of thing I had in mind. It's in beta and free for now; I tried it and it seems to work OK.

Thanks for reading.

I wondered the same thing when I was looking to move from Maine to the northwest. It's really just a step above a phone interview, and it would be a great idea, but I'm guessing it's very rare, if it ever happens at all. I certainly don't think it's inappropriate to ask, but you'd have to be prepare not only to have the idea rejected, but also to provide tech support for the whole process. If anyone has ever experienced this, I'd be interested to hear about it too.

Yeah, I think I'll probably cave and go. But all you need is a webcam and a microphone. Of course once it is past beta libraries would have to pay...it's free for candidates.

I've read people's speculations about using Skype for this, too, but I don't know if any libraries are actually doing so.

Do you already do a phone interview with this organization? If so, a webcam interview is not going to offer much more in knowledge for the hiring organization.

If you are on a 2nd interview, in-person is very common and preferred. It is important that see how you respond to the stresses and challenges of interviewing in-person, which include spur of the moment interactions with other employees and maybe even patrons.

Those are good points. In any case, I decided to go. I really like the area as well.
